MicroMed Acute Care is a topical probiotic spray designed to be applied directly to your dog’s skin as part of their skin-care routine.
It contains a live community of beneficial microorganisms and is intended for use on minor areas of skin irritation and recurring problem spots. MicroMed currently positions Acute Care for topical use where dogs are experiencing minor itchy or irritated skin concerns.
The convenient spray bottle makes it easy to apply directly to paws, skin folds and other affected external areas.
MicroMed Acute Care contains beneficial microorganisms including bacteria, fungi and protozoa formulated to work together as a microbial community.
It is designed to support a balanced skin environment rather than simply adding another conventional skin wash or cream.
Simply spray directly onto the affected external area as directed.
This makes it particularly convenient for dogs that experience occasional irritation around areas such as:
Itchy skin can have many different causes, including environmental allergies, parasites, infections, contact irritation and food-related reactions.
MicroMed can form part of your dog’s skin-care routine, but persistent or recurring itching deserves proper investigation rather than relying on a topical product alone.
If your dog regularly scratches, chews their paws or develops recurring skin problems, have a read through our Itchy Dog NZ Guide for more information about some of the common causes.
MicroMed’s current manufacturer directions recommend applying one to two full sprays directly to the affected area twice daily.
The manufacturer advises continuing application for at least 10 days after the issue has settled.
Always follow the directions on the current product label.
Avoid spraying directly into the eyes, mouth or other sensitive areas.
Because MicroMed contains live microorganisms, the manufacturer advises against using Acute Care at the same time on the same area as antibiotic, antifungal or antibacterial creams, washes or sprays, or products containing ingredients such as zinc, tea tree, neem or essential oils.
If your dog has been prescribed medication or a medicated skin treatment by your veterinarian, do not stop or alter that treatment. Check with your veterinarian before adding MicroMed to the treatment plan.
Seek veterinary advice if your dog has:
Recurring skin problems often have an underlying cause that needs investigating.
